JEONJU Cinema Project: Next Edition

JEONJU Cinema Project is a production investment program aimed at supporting the production of low-budget feature films. The program discovers and invests in creative and ambitious feature film projects from Korea and abroad. For international projects selected as part of the JEONJU Cinema Project, JEONJU IFF not only invests in their production but also oversees their distribution in Korea.

JEONJU Cinema Project: Next Edition is a competition program designed to select projects for the JEONJU Cinema Project. Among the submitted projects, finalists are invited to pitch during the JEONJU Project. Based on the pitch session, one Korean and one or two international projects are chosen as JEONJU Cinema Project final selections, receiving up to 100 million Korean Won for Korean projects and 50 million Korean Won for international projects in production investment. The completed films will have their world premiere (for Korean films) and Asian premiere (for international films) at the following year’s JEONJU IFF.

As of 2024, JEONJU Cinema Project has produced a total of 37 films, 23 Korean and 14 international. At the 26th JEONJU International Film Festival in 2025, HOROOMON directed by Lee Il-ha will be presented as part of the program.

JEONJU Cinema Project selections continue to gain significant recognition both in Korea and internationally. In celebration of its 10th anniversary in 2024, a global screening tour was held at historic and renowned art cinemas across Europe, Central, and South America, including Leopoldo Lugones Cinema in Argentina, the Queen Sofía National Museum Art Centre in Spain, Arsenal Cinema in Germany, and Cineteca Nacional in Mexico.

Additionally, Samsara directed by Lois Patiño, a JEONJU Cinema Project selection, won the Special Jury Award in the Encounters section at the 2023 Berlinale, while Direct Action directed by Ben Russell & Guillaume Cailleau won the Best Film Award in the same section in 2024. Meanwhile, Lucky, Apartment directed by Kangyu Garam, had a theatrical release in Korea last year, reaching local audiences.
