A documentary following three men chasing 'waves of a lifetime' in South Korea's once-barren surf scene.

SYNOPSIS

Former national surfer Jun-hee Cho (30) retired after being outshone by his protégé, Kanoa Hee-jae. Facing deep depression during his military service, he was saved by the thought of "Nazare," Portugal—home to the world’s largest waves. Choosing to face the ocean instead of despair, he now runs 'Nazare Surf House' in Yangyang. Preparing for his third Nazare trip, he mentors 13-year-old Na-im and supports Kanoa's 2026 Asian Games dream. Their journey highlights a bond that transcends competition, finding the true meaning of life in the pursuit of one's own "wave.".

DIRECTOR’S STATEMENT

The documentary Nazaré, Nazaré, Nazaré (Working Title) is set against the backdrop of Yangyang Surf House. It follows the life of Jun-hee Cho, a retired national surfer who has come to terms with his physical limits, alongside the growth and friendship he shares with his student, ‘Na-im’, and junior, ‘Kanoa’. By weaving together the mundane present with the memories of facing the gargantuan waves of Nazaré at his lowest point, the film captures the trio as they charge toward their own personal "waves"—including the 2026 Asian Games. Through their journey, the documentary aims to portray the profound process of confronting the inevitable waves of life.
