Hannah meets her twin sister for the first time and becomes confused as she learns various truths during the process.

SYNOPSIS

Twenty-year-old Hannah, living in LA, discovers that her twin sister, Hana, whom she had never known about, resides in Korea while searching for a donor for her mother, Sun-ok, who needs a liver transplant. Hannah travels to Korea to ask Hana for a liver transplant, and they spend several days together, building a bond. During this process, Hannah learns that she and Hana were born from a surrogate named Seon-jeong. Eventually, the four of them begin to reveal their truths to each other in one place.

DIRECTOR’S STATEMENT

Between mother and daughter, amidst the subtle gap that persists, there are too many emotions intertwined. Daughters often find themselves caught in the irony of yearning for independence from their mothers while simultaneously experiencing separation anxiety. This fact bears a striking resemblance to the instinctual sense of loss and powerlessness felt by children born through surrogacy. I wanted to confront these inevitable contradictions alongside the two children.

INTERVIEW
What inspired you to start this project?
As I stumbled upon various facts about surrogacy, I became impressed by how the problematic aspects of this industry are closely intertwined with the inevitable contradictions in mother-daughter relationships. Two Girls was created and developed based on these points and my own experiences.
Is there any emotion you want the audience to feel after watching this film?
All children, regardless of whether they are daughters or sons, need time to find answers to the questions that arise in their relationship with their parents. I hope this film can offer some support as they navigate through crafting those answers.
