Colors of the wind
My grandfather, Mr. Park Jong-woong, has lived in a silent world. In fact, he was always ready to listen.
It was a big mistake that I could understand him because we were family. My grandfather, Park Jong-woong, has lived in a world of silence for 30 years. He has been lying or sitting on the sofa in my camera for 3 years. I realize that even his granddaughter, myself, mirrors preconceived notions of him being a disabled person. Henceforward, I want to face him as he is by raising a new wind out of the boundary of family. I ask him my family age-old questions in the hope of finding different sides of him I was not aware of. I wake up early rubbing my eyes and follow him for a morning walk, and take out his dust-covered diary and read it. What kind of world does he see? My grandfather and I try to exchange correspondence with the instant photos which we take.
I remember my grandfather as a fun and cheerful person. I pointed the camera at him when I grew up. Then, I thought something was wrong.
However, in the video, he has been only seen as a flat figure - like a paper doll.
Or, Grandpa probably has constantly been changing. Hasn’t Grandpa been seen still because my gaze with the camera hasn't changed over the years?
Is there a sort of wall among us? I learn how the family got along with him after his accident.
I want to bring down the frame about him, which has been secretly built inside me, and encounter him properly. What kind of person is my grandfather today?
