Let's make a film that breaks through with our whole body.

In 2015, I met Lee Hye-mi, a boxer-turned-stunt-actor while making a short film. At that time, we promised to make an action film someday. Later, she became a martial arts director, handed me a camera, and asked me to film her. She said, “I somehow want to make a film with you. If it's a documentary, we can start right away.” The more we talk about the film we are going to make, the more I stand against Hye-mi. She drags me back to the jiujitsu. As such, my escape plan into books and films is halted. Hye-mi wants me to see the world the way she does and she teaches me her actions. She makes me raise my head to see obstacles in front of me. The more I look at Hye-mi, the more I move like her. This is the past we can change. This past will change our future again.

It has been my long-standing desire to make an action film. But, I've always wondered. Why would someone like me, who has been so afraid to use the body, want such a film? Through Hye-mi's body that moves with that much momentum and power, I learned how to feel and experience.I realized that I had been ruled by fear all my life, and that it was limiting. I want to talk to those who are not comfortable with their own bodies, and to all those who are hesitant and afraid. “Don't worry. You will be able to break through the blank wall. So, don't blame yourself and get it back. Get back the strength to stand up again, the will to repeat it again. Looking back on where we are now, we're... pretty good.”
