Portrait of a Jeju Family
About completing a slightly unusual family photo of three youth building a house to settle in Jeju Island
In-wang, Han-kang, and Gang-nam. The three of them leave their lives in Seoul behind and head to Jeju with their own wounds and pains. However, life in Jeju is not easy for newcomers. They have to learn everything anew by making use of their talents. In-wang, interested in architecture, repairs his grandmother's house, which was destroyed by a typhoon. Han-kang, who studied cooking while traveling the world, wants to open a restaurant there with In-wang. Gang-nam, who put down the violin, learns how to be a diver and adjust himself to life in Jeju. However, among these youngsters, Jeju's unique and complex family history intervenes. Will they be able to say goodbye to the difficult past, restore their estranged relationships, and start a new life?
In Seoul, even a small space to soothe the hearts of young people who are losing their ways in front of the cold reality, might be an undeserved hope. In-wang and Han-kang head to Jeju to pursue the memories of their unconstrained childhood. However, the island of Jeju is not so friendly for outsiders. This is a story that retells the tale of the drifting of youngsters as an adventure. I would like to send my encouragement and support to all beings who dream of a different life elsewhere.
