No.10 Bus

YING Liang
China Docufiction
SYNOPSIS

A packed bus crashed into the Fuxi River during the after-lunch rush hour on March 31, 2004. So many years have passed, and a tragic event that should have become part of the recorded history of the city of Zigong has instead turned into half-uttered, half-hushed fragments of collective memory hidden from view. This is a, docu-drama, about some of the individuals and families involved centrally or marginally in the '3/31 super automobile accident' Some segments tell the stories of a small family, weaving together fictional narratives and a large amount of interviews and documentary footage. This is so that we can stay true to memory and ensure the truthfulness of memory. Whether in the fictional or the documentary parts of the film, the audience will be confronted by the feelings, personalities and memories of the individuals and families portrayed in them. This film will in turn be confronted by the next generation and the generation after of this city.

DIRECTOR’S STATEMENT

I was among the witnesses of the traffic accident seven years ago. In Chinese, "monument" and "sadness" have the same pronunciation. I'd like to use this film to serve as a small monument.
