Hong-i, who suffers from debt, brings her mother Seo-hee, who is in a nursing home, to pay off her debt.

SYNOPSIS

Hong-i, who suffers from private loan debt, brings her mother Seo-hee, who has dementia, from a nursing home. Hong-i's purpose is 50 million won that Seo-hee has saved all her life. Hong-i has no intention of getting along with Seo-hee, just for the purpose of money. Hong-i becomes insensitive to secretly spending Seo-hee's money as she pays off her debt and spends it for dating. In the meantime, Hong-i and Seo-hee check each other's inner feelings, which have always been hurtful, and the two open their hearts to each other. While the two understand each other little by little, Seo-hee's condition grows deeper. Hong-i is troubled by seeing Seo-hee like that, and Seo-hee says she doesn't want to live with Hong-i. Finally, Hong-i decides to make a small choice for Seo-hee and for herself. Hong-i, who is alone again with that choice, begins to become alone, recalling the last words Seo-hee said.

DIRECTOR’S STATEMENT

Red Nails is a story about an immature woman who wanted to live well but only fell from the axis of her life due to her choice, maturing little by little through a salty cohabitation with her mother, who was also at odds with each other. In addition, through a story about a woman suffering from hardships and debt, who takes her mother with dementia from a nursing home and uses it to pay off her debt, I want to make a film about the support and care facing precariat, single womanhood in their late 30s.

INTERVIEW
What inspired you to start this project?
I started this project with the desire to honestly talk about the concerns about support and care faced by precariat, single womanhood in their late 30s in an ultra-aging society, as well as their vague fears about the coming future.
Is there any emotion you want the audience to feel after watching this film?
I hope that many people living in a harsh reality, each making the best choice, will be able to look back on their lives and gain the strength to console themselves through Red Nails .
