DIRECTOR’S STATEMENT

THE WAVES, THE SAND, AND TWO LOVERS IN THE MIDDLE OF… is a story about lovers living as non-existence. The film, which began as a dance film project called "Queer E-motion," focuses on the problem of "sleep" amid concerns about the desire to be integrated into social norms. Sleep is a matter of home, and as a physical living space, spaces of mental comfort such as HOUSE and HOME is indispensable. People who cannot live together under social norms or be a family even if they live together, would they sleep comfortably at home? Furthermore, the film examines the 'comfort' of present existence. Perhaps queers are creatures living in discomfort. The film affirms this and imagines a more creaking world alongside invisible beings. A life that transforms, and is non-normative and not fixed as one - life that fails to be normal. The film takes a 6mm DV video camera and films the connection of all, the waves neither with end nor beginning, the presence of the sea, the dance, the lovers, and expresses them in pixels, overlapping layers and flickers that disappear and reappear. The title, THE WAVES, THE SAND, AND TWO LOVERS IN THE MIDDLE OF… entails embracing and loving everything in the midst of that inconvenience.
