Geum-rye is in her 70s who runs a clothing shop and time-travels whenever flashes of lightning strike in the air. She wants to change her past by hiring Soryong, a betrayal run away from a gang as her 100M sprint coach.

SYNOPSIS

Geumnye (female, 74) is the owner of ‘Chicago’, a clothing and tailor shop in a red-light district of the countryside in Gangreung. She is a famous designer whose clothes are sold even in vintage markets in Seoul. Interestingly, whenever the weather forecasts lightning, she closes her shop and travels 30 years back to 1993. It is to figure out the cause of the car accident and the reason her daughter ran away. But it is frustrating as she comes back without an answer each time. Then she concentrates on the 100M sprinting, which seems like the only alternative solution. She believes that she can catch her daughter and prevent the accident from happening if she runs 100M in 14 seconds on the sidewalk that is 100 meters away from where the accident occurred. The problem is, her record stopped at 18 seconds.
In front of Geumnye who is once again in despair, Soryong (female, 35) appears with a job flyer of Chicago (priority: running) in her hand. She stole all the money of the boss and escaped from the gang to start a new life with her lover. Geumnye, once saw Soryong easily outpace other gangs by running in the market, immediately lets her live in a room on the 2nd floor. Their sprint training kicks off in no time.

DIRECTOR’S STATEMENT

CHICAGO began with the back of an old lady who was standing blankly for a while at the door, without entering the store. Her stillness without taking a single step forward made me imagine a long tail of hers made by her quiet yet persistent attachment to the past.
Someone who never admits his or her own fault but blames others even when the terrible loneliness and pain lies within oneself so that eventually lies to oneself.
Someone who rejects reality and can’t look into oneself, missing the opportunity to truly face the ‘real me’ each time.
A story of someone, who put oneself into a bar-free prison, meets another one who is different yet the same. Through the conflicts and revealing and confessing the real emotions that stayed inside, you will face the past and the truth that has been denied so far. When you accept them fully, you become a ‘real you’ so that you can change and get better. This is a story of living in the present where hope lies underneath.
As such, I wanted to deliver a happy ending with the long tail.
