The Burglars
An elderly woman, Eunja, who lives in the countryside teams up with Lee Palbok, the burglar, embarks on sneak-thieving empty houses.
After being left as an outcast due to the power struggles within her small village, 70-year-old Eunja falls victim to a break-in during a village festival. Discovering an unidentifiable bag left behind by the thief, Eunja takes it upon herself to track down the culprit. Eventually, she uncovers that the burglar was the mysterious gentleman, Lee Pal-bok, who had gifted her with a cigarette just days prior. The growing sense of anger calms down soon and she finds curiosity fills up inside her about this man who seems to be a similar age as her... and about the work he is doing....
An adolescent drama of the elderly. Where do we find the liberation period and when does it begin? Should their time for freedom and deviation be only limited to the reminiscence of the past or even the waiting of the dusk that runs toward the end? As much as our moments, the present exists among the elderly and they have the freedom and deviation to break the present and outgrow it. Through their exhilarating experience, the film talks about a way of living that is not bound to the past or the future but one living to the fullest in the present and moving for oneself.
