Hyunbin who became curious about the past of his family pays a visit to his now-separated parents and leaves the most precious moments into a film.

SYNOPSIS

“It has been more than two years since mom and dad are separated. I became curious why.”
Hyunbin is about to graduate soon. In order to hear the unrecorded story of the other half, he visits her family and starts asking about the past. As the story goes deeper, their happy and sad memories become clearer. Then he decides to leave their most precious memories with a film. Because records stay longer than memories.

DIRECTOR’S STATEMENT

People live by good memories. I heard someone say it. To not forget the memories, we record them in writings, photos, and videos. Maybe that’s why people inside a photo are always smiling. Just like the ones in my family huddled together in a small piece of photo. When I said I wanted to film a documentary about my family, I did not want something grand. I thought it would be enough if I had something to look at as I remember them when time has passed. However deep a scar or never stopping time separates us apart, this film will remain. With the memory that we loved.

INTERVIEW
What inspired you to start this project?
Two years ago, my maternal grandmother became very ill. Everyone in the family was terrified that she might pass away. I felt guilty because I felt like I was always taking from her and never really being there for her when she needed me. I was scared as well. I was afraid that if I lose her, I would have to live with that guilt for the rest of my life.
Fortunately, my grandmother began to regain her health. I started to film her every time I saw her from then on. The videos piled up, aimlessly and without a clear plan. One day, when I looked at them again, they were filled with my guilt, not my grandmother. So I turned the film’s direction to myself and started filming my biggest world: my family. Hopefully, this time, love can be felt, not guilt.
Is there any scene or emotion you want the audience to remember after watching this movie?
“If you could capture a moment in your life on film, what memory would you choose?” For some, it’s a turning point in their life, for others, it’s their saddest or happiest moment. It’s a question I’ve asked my family, and I still don’t really know how to answer it. Maybe that’s why I’d like to ponder it with those who have seen the film.
