The Gorals
High school student Inhye and her friends rescue animals at the school zoo and build a shelter together on a secret plain.
High school seniors Inhye and Seohee build a shelter on a secluded plain, taking along the orphaned duckling, ‘Heesun’.
One day, when the school zoo they manage is threatened with closure, they recruit their classmates Jungae and Sumin from the Early Decision class and devise a plan together.
They rescue the animals from the zoo and bring them to the plain.
To fill the empty zoo, they buy animals from the market.
They care for the shelter animals and spend joyful time together, calling their group the ‘The Gorals’.
In the second semester, they hear avian flu outbreak news, and the zoo animals will be culled.
Feeling responsible for the animals they purchased from the market, they attempt to rescue them but fail; their shelter is also destroyed. ‘The Gorals’ are reunited for the last time, and they start a journey to find Heesun’s home.
"When I was in high school, I felt like a small animal in the zoo."
I wanted to tell a story about breaking away from the oppressive school life and creating my own sanctuary.
The protagonists Inhye, Seohee, Jungae, and Sumin are confused as they face their college entrance exams.
They aim for a university based on their grades but don't know what they truly want to do. Confusedly, they rescue small animals and build a shelter in the wilderness, experiencing their own strength for the first time.
The movie The Gorals tells the story of teenage girls pressured by college prep courses, finding a sanctuary, and rescuing small animals which are not respected as lives.
“Girl’s adventure drama”
A group of lonely girls labeled troublemakers develop friendships as they survive in the wilderness. They form a group called 'The Gorals' and go on adventures for small animals.
The film tells the story of the girls' friendship and adventures and shows the audience the possibilities of a new girlhood.
