LOGLINE

A story about caregiver Sang-ok, Jaehee, demented elderly without family, Sang-ok’s daughter Green, and her lesbian lover Rain.

SYNOPSIS

Caregiver Sang-ok is unable to lend her daughter, Green, a large sum of money. Instead, she suggests that they live together in her house. Then her daughter moves into the house with her girlfriend, Rain, without Sang-ok’s prior consent. Since Sang-ok refuses to recognize the young couple’s relationship, the three of them run into a string of problems. At work, Sang-ok takes care of Jaehee, an elderly dementia-stricken person without family or friends who has dedicated her life to caring for the underprivileged. One day, Sang-ok sees a wound on her daughter’s body and asks her about it. She learns that Green has been battling against the school to help a fellow lecturer who was unjustly fired. In the meantime, as donations for Jaehee decrease and her condition deteriorates, the hospital plans to transfer her to a cheaper nursing home. Sang-ok receives an unexpected phone call and visits her daughter’s school, where a protest breaks out. She realizes that Green, as a sexual minority, is unaccepted by the world. A few days later, Sang-ok finds out that Jaehee has been transferred to another nursing home and sets out to find her.

DIRECTOR’S STATEMENT

At first glance, the mother-daughter relationship may seem like the closest bond in the world. However, when a wall called “understanding” stands in between, what choices can we make? There are things we can never give up because we are family. At the same time, there are moments when we want to give up because we are family. Through the story of a mother who endures such times and takes a step forward, I hope to convey how we can maintain our humanity beyond understanding and incomprehension. Also, I hope to show a small yet solid possibility that people pushed out of their places for various reasons could embrace and support one another.
