Late Summer’s Echoes of Love
Having decided to divorce, Wootae sets out to meet his wife, as the cries of cicadas bring back moments of love.
Wootae meets Jiyeon to finalize their divorce, but as cicadas cry, buried emotions resurface. After a meal, Jiyeon suggests a beer, and they drift into old memories. That night, they end up at a motel. When Wootae suggests starting over, Jiyeon firmly states she has already signed the papers. The next day, as Jiyeon leaves, Wootae tries to stop her, but she hands him an envelope, saying too much time has passed. The taxi pulls away, and cicada cries grow louder. Lost in thought, Wootae burns his hand with his cigarette. As the sound turns into a piercing ringing, he sinks to the ground.
The film explores the theme, "The memory of love lasts forever, but human emotions change," through a day in the lives of a divorcing couple, Wootae and Jiyeon. It delicately portrays their lingering emotions as they attempt to rekindle their love, only to part ways for realistic reasons. This emotional journey is captured through subtle visual storytelling and carefully crafted sound design, reflecting their shifting emotions with a restrained yet evocative approach.
