BUENOS AIRES
A meta-film about a restaurant manager and his staff making a movie about their own experiences.
A former film director has spent the past decade managing a restaurant at an Argentine eatery that features tango performances. In an attempt to prove those who had once dismissed him wrong, he decides to make a film about the absurdities he and the staff encounter daily, casting them despite their lack of acting experience. The production descends into chaos and ultimately falls apart. The restaurant returns to its routine —but on this particular day, seemingly trivial events and casual conversations begin to build up, fueled by unspoken resentment, spiraling out of control.
BUENOS AIRES explores the power dynamics of subordination, generational differences, and social classes through a story that unfolds over the course of a single day in a confined space. Through the use of metafiction, the film underscores these relationships both humorously and dramatically, encouraging the audience to reflect on what it means to be truly seen and acknowledged by others.
