Hyeon-jae wants to abandon her family to become Hae-in's daughter.

SYNOPSIS

Seventeen-year-old Hyeon-jae cannot understand her mother at all. Her mom hesitates to break free from dad Il-soon's violence, who pours out feelings and leans on her. It is her limit. She wanders around the neighborhood and happens to see Hae-in for the same reason. Hyeon-jae, who secretly watches Hae-in during the day she stumbles upon her, learns that she is looking for her daughter, who had gone missing ten years ago. Hyeon-jae wishes to fill the place of Hae-in's lost daughter. She eventually decides to abandon her own family. Hyeon-jae succeeds in bringing Hae-in into her plan. But the anxiety that she cannot replace Hae-in's daughter persists. Hae-in is struggling with guilt for her daughter and complicated feelings for Hyeon-jae. She soon gets a report on her missing daughter leaving for Yeosu. Hyeon-jae, wishing for the unattainable, makes a choice for Hae-in.

DIRECTOR’S STATEMENT

“Actually, I was pretending to be asleep.” Children wait for ‘that time’ to pass, even in the hot summer. The main character, Hyeon-jae, throws off the blanket and struggles to escape the violence. Children cannot choose their parents, but they can choose their own lives. As a domestic violence survivor, Hyeon-jae regains her lost routine, her family separates, and her loved ones move away from her. However, some families are restored, just as Hyeon-jae, who has passed through a dark tunnel with Hae-in's help, has accepted her mother Seok-yeong.
