“No one takes care of me” My mother takes care of my family, but who cares for her?

Superwoman Kim Hyojeong! She is a counselor at work and she is a mother at home. All of a sudden, Hyojeong who had lived as a housewife for 10 years became the new head of the household along with childcare. She is also the one who wears rubber gloves to wash the piled dirty dishes and prepares meals for her children. For Sung who stays at home all day, housework is always just considered help. One day, Hyojeong declares a strike by saying, “There is no one who takes care of me.”
Her daughter Chanyoung finally realized that her mother, who is used to taking care of others, is also someone who needs care. She decides to take care of her family on behalf of Hyojeong, who wants to give up her mother role. Will Chan-young be able to take care of her mother, who has a hard time taking responsibility for herself?

Mom's Care Service is an autobiographical documentary film that looks into the family through the perspective of the narrative, myself, Chanyoung. The film begins with my concerns about care labor, which is naturally passed down to women. As it visualizes the invisible care, it follows the patriarchal path that is firmly established in the family. Trapped in the dichotomy frame of perpetrator=male/victim=female through domestic violence, I try to break the link of gender roles created by patriarchy through the film. In order to accomplish that, I needed to get out of the patriarchal world and create my own space. The mother and daughter start caring for themselves, not for others, in an independent space. The fence in a name of ‘Family’ forces a woman’s sacrifice called ‘Mom’ in order to thrive ‘Ours’. My family needs a new question. “What is the family?”
