AUNGYAMI
This film tells the story of a couple who joined the struggle for democracy in Myanmar in 2021
Korean Choi Jinbae receives photos and videos from Myanmar, and they show the devastation in his neighbourhood. The people of Myanmar asked him to show the world what was happening in their land. A month before Choi received the photos, a coup d'état took place in Myanmar.
The director thought that expressing the psychological distress and frustration of the protagonists, whose minds are in Myanmar but whose bodies are tied to Korea, would be a way to differentiate the film from other works dealing with the Myanmar pro-democracy protests, and he made the film while thinking about how to express the barbaric events in Myanmar in the peacefulness of Korea.
