I witnessed the earnest aspiration of the residents to return to their normal daily life.

SYNOPSIS

The grandmothers call me carrying a camera “director.” Staying in the village, I live a clumsy rural life. Garden crops amaze me. Since one day, the flying bird perched on the eaves is trying to turn my gaze away from the nest to protect its babies. Seeing the grandmothers sitting in a sunny place, I picture the daily life of my deceased mother and father in their childhood hometown. Winter came for the second time, and the world is buzzing with news of the Pyeongchang Winter Olympics and unprecedented “peace mood,” but Soseong-ri is an exception. The authorities harass the residents countless times, and their daily lives are thoroughly destroyed. Still, as it has been for a long time, they all gather together at the village hall to share food and play yut(a Korean traditional game) to forget our worries for a while.

DIRECTOR’S STATEMENT

The grandmothers sit on the yard in the village where the sun gets the most sunlight, and doze off like photosynthesis and talk about the times they lived.
It is not only because of the passage of time that the wrinkles on the forehead have become clearer over the past six years. The suffering of Soseong-ri due to the repeated tyranny of the state and the destruction of daily life by public authorities is the future of the space in which I will live. I pick up a hoe and start living a clumsy hometown life. Through Soseong-ri's daily life, I want to show the prototype of our daily life that we should not forget. I hope that the ordinary daily life in Soseong-ri will become an echo of peace.
